North threatens to withdraw support for Tinubu’s APC if the Senate Presidency is not allocated to their region

The Democratic Research Institute (DRI) sponsored a one- day round table on nation- building and democracy with the theme, ” The Imperative of Participation, Equity, and Equitable Development of Northern Nigeria. ” The Northerners attended.

The Northerners emphasised that their demand was non- negotiable because the North did not control both the executive and judicial parts of government in the communiqué signed by Dr. Benjamin Izra Dikki, Secretary, and Prof. Tukur Muhammad- Baba, Chairman of the Communique Committee. 

The Northwest zone cast 2, 652, 235 votes, the North Central 1, 742, 993, and the North East 1, 185, 458, according to a table in the communiqué that displayed the proportion of votes cast in each of the six geopolitical zones. The North’ s contributions made up 63. 5% of the total.

According to the communiqué, the south- west contributed 25. 7% of the vote for the ruling APC, the south- south contributed 9. 10%, and the south- east contributed 1. 45%.

The round table, which included representatives from all nineteen Northern states, reached the following conclusion: ” Based on the contributions of the North in the recently concluded general elections, as evidenced in the table above, and in particular access to political and economic incentives and opportunities, the round table resolves as follows: ”

Demand that the National Assembly be run in accordance with Section 14′ s provisions and its revised subsections (1), (2), and (3). Prof. Al- Mustapha Ussiju Medanar had earlier given a welcome speech in which he stated that the main goal of the roundtable discussion, was to emphasize and deepen the discussions surrounding the roles and place of the Northern region in fostering nation- building in Nigeria, and strengthening its democracy through key players and partners of the region.
