The conflict, primarily involving Governor Fubara and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, has been a major issue in the state’s political landscape, leading to tensions and factions vying for power. While Ihunwo did not directly name Wike, his comments appeared to address the political struggles at the heart of the dispute.

Ihunwo praised Governor Fubara’s quiet but effective leadership, contrasting him with other leaders who seek media attention for minor achievements. He highlighted the governor’s efforts to initiate and complete numerous projects without seeking publicity. “Our governor is gradually developing Rivers State, and we are moving forward,” Ihunwo said, adding that Fubara’s leadership was for the benefit of the state, not personal gain.

Addressing the broader political climate, Ihunwo firmly stated that no individual, regardless of their position, could claim ownership of Rivers State. He specifically criticized efforts by external political figures, particularly Wike, to exert influence over the state from afar. He drew attention to incidents in Ikwerre and Emuoha, asserting, “You can’t try that in Obio/Akpor. We will resist it.”

Ihunwo made it clear that any attempt to undermine the authority of Obio/Akpor Local Government, such as destroying government property, would not be tolerated. “No one can burn any building here. If you try, we’ll burn your investment—that’s the simple truth,” he said, emphasizing the unity and resilience of the people of Obio/Akpor and Rivers State.

Concluding his statement, Ihunwo reinforced that Rivers State is too large and important to be controlled by one person, vowing to defend the state’s sovereignty and the interests of its people.
