Okocha Reveals How External Influences Swayed Fubara After Aso Rock Meeting

Recounting the meeting, Okocha stated that Tinubu had proposed eight resolutions to address the challenges facing Rivers State. “During this meeting, President Tinubu presented eight resolutions aimed at addressing the pressing issues in our state. Everyone, including Governor Fubara, seemed to agree at the time,” he said, emphasizing that the gathering was united in support, with attendees responding with “thunderous applause.”
However, Okocha alleged that Fubara later changed his stance due to advice from local elders who warned him that he lacked the constitutional authority to implement Tinubu’s recommendations. “They counseled him that he lacked the constitutional authority to follow through with the President’s recommendations,” Okocha stated. This reversal, he argued, has fueled the ongoing political instability in Rivers State.
Criticizing Fubara’s leadership, Okocha accused him of disregarding the rule of law. “The governor has displayed a gross disregard for the rule of law, choosing which court orders to obey and which to ignore,” he said. He argued that this selective approach to governance has contributed to disorder in the state, culminating in the recent declaration of a state of emergency.
Despite the challenges, Okocha expressed optimism that the emergency measures would help restore stability. “It is painful to see our state in turmoil, but this decision is necessary for our collective future,” he stated. He reaffirmed his support for President Tinubu’s efforts and urged all stakeholders to collaborate in restoring peace and good governance in Rivers State.
