On Thursday, agents of the Kogi State Command of the Nigerian Police Force detained workers from the Chinese construction company CCECC who were allegedly hired by Bello to blockade the highways going to the Kogi Central Senatorial District.
The route leads to the senatorial district of Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a contender for the state’s PDP seat.
On Friday night, Bello made an appearance on Arise TV and confessed closing the route, but he gave security concerns as his justification.
In response to a question about his relationship with Mrs. Uduaghan, Bello stated, “I typically avoid talking about her for the simple reason that she is my sister and my subject and I’m bound to provide a level playing field for everyone to carry out the electioneering process as freely as possible, and I’ve always provided that.

“We came to the realization that these criminals did not fly in, but rather moved along the highways, and we were able to identify some of these roads.
“Even before the election, we had plotted out those highways throughout Kogi central and other regions. Then comes 2023, and there are indicators that these criminals were approaching. These were the highways that were used in all of the attacks that resulted in deaths.
There are more roadways that people use. The highways that were dug out were escape routes.
Thus, we dug up those routes so that we could catch you if you tried to flee after committing a crime. I also made the right decision in terms of timing because that is when they often commit crimes during an election campaign. We are aware of the machinery that was transported throughout the nation….. Continue Reading
