Samuel Ortom: I’m not contesting the 2027 election, citing his understanding of why he lost in the 2023 race.

Samuel Ortom, the former governor of Benue State, has announced that he will not seek any political position in the upcoming 2027 elections, citing a divine instruction. CONTINUE READING>>>

He made this statement during a visit from members of the G-14, a group of elders from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) representing the 14 Tiv-speaking local government areas in Benue.

Speaking in Makurdi on Tuesday, Ortom stated, “God has revealed everything to me. He has asked me to wait for Him.” He emphasized the importance of obeying God’s command and explained that his choice not to run in 2027 stems from this spiritual revelation.

Ortom also reflected on his defeat in the 2023 senatorial election, admitting that his failure to seek God’s guidance before entering the race contributed to his loss.

He acknowledged, “I’m not contesting the 2027 election. I knew why I lost the election in 2023. I didn’t consult God. My people purchased the forms for me, and I accepted them without consulting God.”

Although he will not run for office in 2027, Ortom expressed optimism about the PDP’s future, asserting that the party is committed to regaining control of the Benue Government House in the next election.

He reiterated his dedication to supporting the party, emphasizing that individual ambitions should not take precedence over the party’s interests.

The former governor also spoke about the personal sacrifices he made during his tenure, including distancing himself from family and friends to focus on state issues.

Ortom mentioned that he had planned to take a break after leaving office, but party elders encouraged him to stay engaged in politics. While stepping back from running for office, Ortom continues to be an influential figure within the PDP as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.
