According to Channels TV, last month, Minister Umahi gave Julius Berger a seven-day ultimatum to accept the Federal Government’s offer of N740.79 billion for completing the 82km Section II of the road. Umahi expressed frustration over the delay in mobilizing to the site, despite the Federal Executive Council approving the funds, leading to significant hardship for road users and a negative impact on the government’s reputation. In response to this, Senator Shehu Sani took to his official X handle on Wednesday to comment on the situation. He noted that this is the first time a Minister of Works has taken such a bold step to dismiss a major and influential company like Julius Berger. In his post, Senator Sani said, “The revocation of the N740 billion Kaduna-Abuja contract for non-performance was long overdue. It’s the first time in history that a Works Minister has had the courage to send a giant company like Berger packing.
The initial project cost in 2018 was N155 billion, and after six years, the project is still not completed. Once again, kudos to Umahi.”
