According to reports, Mr Chukwu was returning from a political gathering when the gunmen followed him and shot him dead before setting his vehicle on fire.

The attack also claimed the lives of five other people. Chijioke Edeoha, the Enugu State Labour Party gubernatorial candidate, confirmed the incident and expressed concern that his party members were being targeted by rival political parties who felt threatened by their presence in the state.
