Naira Redesign Policy ill-Implemented – Yahaya Bello

The Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, Friday night said the naira redesign policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria, was “ill-managed, ill-implemented, and ill-timed.”

Governor Bello said this during a one-on-one interview on the Politics Today programme of Channels Television on Friday night.

Governors Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, and Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State, had on February 5 dragged the Federal Government to court over the naira redesign and cash withdrawal policies, following tension in the country resulting from the deadline issued by the CBN for the stoppage of the use of the old notes….. The governors had argued that the demonetisation policy by the CBN was not in compliance with extant provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the CBN Act 2007, and other laws on the subject.

INEC’s Performance Woeful – Moghalu

A former presidential aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress, Kingsley Moghalu, has berated the Independent National Electoral Commission over the conduct of Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections, saying the electoral umpire’s performance was “woeful”.

Moghalu, who stated this in a series of tweets on Friday which he titled, ‘My take on the election outcome’, said INEC and “election management in Nigeria need a complete overhaul,” adding that “elections must be made logistically efficient and transparent.”

The former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria noted that the 28 per cent turnout of voters, which, according to him, was lower than the 34 per cent recorded in the 2019 general election, was “disappointing.”

“This phenomenon needs a separate interrogation to understand why it happened when 87 million voters collected their PVCs,” he added, stressing that “such voter turnout levels undermine the meaning of democracy.

Why Tinubu’ll Be Last President APC Will produce – Ayodele

The leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele has said Bola Tinubu would be the last president the All Progressives Congress, APC, will produce.

Primate Ayodele said Nigerians wouldn’t vote for APC again because the party deprived people of their rights and made them lose hope in democracy.

In a statement signed by his spokesman, Oluwatosin Osho, Ayodele said even APC members will not enjoy the incoming government.

The clergyman also accused the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of colluding with the APC to steal the mandate of Nigerians.

Ayodele said, “INEC and APC colluded to steal the will of the people, God will definitely fight for the cause of the people at the appropriate time.

“Nigeria will not enjoy this government, even the APC will not enjoy this government and Tinubu will be the last president the party will produce.

We Don’t Envisage Post-Election Violence – Police

The Nigeria Police Force has said it doesn’t envisage post-election violence in the country following the conclusion of the 2023 presidential and National Assembly elections held on Saturday.

Saturday PUNCH reports that the announcement of the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, by the Independent National Electoral Commission, as the president-elect, has been met with disagreement from some parties.

The disagreement, however, was mainly from the supporters of the two major opposition parties, the Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party, whose presidential candidates, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, respectively came second and third in the presidential elections.

Many of their supporters had taken to their social media handles to ask for the cancellation of the elections while demanding another election….. Continue Reading
