We Meet In Court, Tinubu Accepts Peter Obi’s Challenge

President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has expressed his readiness to defend his mandate in court, saying he accepts the decision of the Labour Party LP candidate, Mr Peter Obi to challenge the outcome of the election.

Part of the statement reads; “We watched with dismay today’s press conference addressed by the Presidential candidate of Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi where he made very weird and wild claims about the outcome of the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections, an election in which he emerged a second runner up, according to the result declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“We welcome the decision of Mr Obi to seek redress in court as an aggrieved party if he is convinced of the evidence of electoral frauds he will present before the tribunal as alleged.

“Going to court is part of the electoral process and it is the most decent, statesmanlike and civilised course of action to take. We salute the decision. It is surely better than calling supporters to the streets and instigating social unrest”.

Jonathan’s kinsmen congratulate Tinubu, call for inclusive government

A group operating under the aegis of Citizens Network for Peace and Development in Nigeria (CNPDN), Thursday felicitated the emergence of the former governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu as president-elect.

The group members who are kinsmen of the former President Goodluck Jonathan in a statement made available to DAILY POST in Abuja, expressed optimism that Tinubu will unite the country for good.

The statement, which was signed by the National Secretary, Francis Wainwei, said they campaigned for Tinubu and held several press conferences in Abuja and Rivers urging Nigerians to vote for Tinubu.

PDP Rejects Declaration Of Tinubu As President-Elect, Claims Atiku Won

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the declaration and return of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Tinubu as president-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, the PDP asked INEC to immediately withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to Tinubu and cancel the presidential election declaration in line with its powers under Section 65 of the Electoral Act 2022.

According to the party, INEC in declaring the APC presidential candidate as the winner, acted contrary to the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), the Electoral Act 2022 and the INEC Guidelines and Regulations for the conduct of the 2023 Presidential election.

The PDP held that its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, clearly won the February 25, 2023, presidential election having evidently scored the majority of lawful votes cast by Nigerians at the polling units.

PDP Open To Forming An Alliance With LP’s Obi, Says Atiku

Atiku Abubakar says he is open to an alliance with the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi. 

The PDP presidential candidate for the 2023 elections made the comment during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, a day after Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared as the winner of Saturday’s exercise.

While the PDP and LP have rejected the outcome of the poll, Atiku, who ran alongside Obi in the 2019 election, says he is open to working with the former Anambra State governor.

“So, as far as I am concerned, Peter is welcome to dialogue with the PDP. We are ready to dialogue with him. I don’t think we will have a problem if he wants to dialogue with the PDP, whether for an alliance or not,” he said during the event.

Over 1m Nigerians receive N5,000 cash monthly – FG

The Federal Government declared on Thursday that 1,940,004 vulnerable Nigerians were currently receiving N5,000 cash gifts every month.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajia Sadiya Farouq, said this at a One-Day Stakeholders’ Retreat On National Social Investment (Establishment) Bill organised by the Senate Committee on Social Duties.

Farouq was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Nasir Gwarzo.

The minister explained that the objective of the National Social Investment Programme Establishment Bill was to provide a statutory and institutional framework for the implementation of the National Social Investment Programme.
