I didn’t resign from PDP – Ayodele Fayose

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Friday, refuted news reports that he had resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party following the party’s loss in Saturday’s presidential election.

Fayose, who asserted that he still remains a PDP member, said that he did not resign from the party but only stepped aside.

The former governor, in a statement he personally signed, titled, “I didn’t resign from PDP, I only stepped aside – Ayo Fayose,” urged Nigerians to continue to support and vote for the PDP,” especially in the governorship and houses of assembly elections”.

Fayose’s statement reads, “I am still a bonafide member of the PDP. I only said I stepped aside because I need to speak the truth to power without the fear of my view being tainted by party colouration. Resigning from a political party has procedures and same will be followed if I strongly find the need to leave the party.

“It is important that we have somebody that can say the truth without wearing any party toga.

“I am a member of the PDP, I am a member of the PDP National Executive Committee, a member of the party caucus, member of the Board of Trustees based on my position as a former chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum. It’s a lifetime membership. But Nigeria is bigger than any party.”

Rotational presidency settled, says Wike

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Friday, said the current power shift to the Southern region had corrected the rotational presidency being clamoured for.

This is as he also thanked Nigerians for supporting the return of power to the Southern part of the country.

Wike spoke on Friday when he joined his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde, to inaugurate the state 5,000,000-litre Aviation Fuel Dispensing Depot at the Ibadan Airport in the Alakia area of the state.

“I have told people that those who fight for change, who fight for revolution may not be directed beneficiaries of that fight but today, history has it that all of us now are aware that when power finishes from the south, it will go to the north; when it finishes from the north, it will come to the south.

“So, it does not need to be written in the constitution at all before it is implemented. And I thank Nigerians for standing firm to see that this issue materialises.”

He also commended Makinde for supporting the demand for a power shift to the South, saying he was their demand later materialised.

“I am happy he (Makinde) is one of those that made history by making sure that power shift to the south,” he said.

Gov Oyebanji inspects roads in Ado-Ekiti, Ikere.

Ekiti State governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji said his administration will continue to ensure that government projects are in conformity with high standards so that Ekiti people would have value for their money.

Gov Oyebanji disclosed this in Ado Ekiti on Thursday when he led some state officials on an inspection of road projects in some parts of Ikere and Ado Ekiti.

According to Gov Oyebanji: “Part of what we have built into our strategy is continuous monitoring of government projects to ensure conformity with standard and value for money. Once in a while, I go out myself to check on what contractors are doing to ensure that Ekiti people have the best value for their money.
