Wike alleged that supporters of Peter Obi had tried to convince him to endorse Obi during the presidential campaign. However, Wike declined, explaining that he believed Obi had a slim chance of winning. He felt it wasn’t in the best interest of Rivers State to back a candidate with little likelihood of success.
Wike elaborated on the situation, saying, “What you see happening now involves the Atiku faction, the Peter Obi faction, and some PDP governors who view me as an obstacle. The Atiku group thinks my team and I prevented him from becoming president, but what we opposed was injustice.”
In reference to Obi’s supporters, Wike disclosed, “Peter Obi’s group lobbied me heavily, and they cannot deny it. But I told them, ‘This won’t work; Rivers State will not support a campaign that is destined to fail.'”
