Victor Odili, a former chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA), had accused Wike of deducting ₦20 million monthly from local government allocations during his tenure as Rivers State Governor.

In a press statement signed on behalf of the 2018–2021 Executive Chairmen, Ihunwo described the allegations as baseless and politically motivated. He emphasized that Wike, known for his fairness and integrity, ensured local government funds were managed transparently throughout his administration.

“Chief Odili’s claims are completely false. As individuals who served as local government chairmen under Governor Wike, we can categorically state that he never deducted a single kobo from LGA allocations. His administration upheld accountability and transparency,” Ihunwo stated.

According to The Guardian reports, Ihunwo said, “For the avoidance of doubt, as someone who served as mayor and Chairman of ALGON during that time, I can confirm that Governor Wike never deducted a single kobo from LGA allocations. The records are clear, and the truth must be upheld.”

Ihunwo attributed the allegations to personal grievances and attempts to curry favor or gain political appointments. He noted that such unfounded claims aim to distort the legacy of a leader who prioritized principled governance.

“Wike’s commitment to fairness and rules earned him admiration and criticism. Those unwilling to align with his principled approach may have misunderstood or misrepresented his intentions,” he added.

Ihunwo urged the people of Rivers State and Nigerians to disregard the allegations, highlighting Wike’s legacy of accountability and good governance. He stressed the importance of upholding the truth and resisting efforts to rewrite history for personal gain.
