AFCON 2025 Qualifier: CAF Could Grant Libya Three Points if Super Eagles Boycott Match

The match is the second leg following Nigeria’s 1-0 win at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state. Fisayo Dele-Bashiru scored the only goal of that game, despite time-wasting tactics by the Mediterranean Knights.

However, ahead of the return fixture in Benina, the Super Eagles’ delegation has been detained at Al Abraq Airport for over 15 hours since their arrival in Libya.

In a lengthy post on X, team captain Troost-Ekong expressed his frustration: “As the captain, together with the team, we have decided that we will NOT play this game. CAF should look at the report and what is happening here. Even if they decide to allow this kind of behavior, let them have the points.” Continue Reading>>>

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is reportedly making arrangements to fly the team back home. If this happens, CAF could penalize the three-time African champions for boycotting the match.

However, if CAF determines that Libya mistreated the Nigerian team, the North African side could face sanctions and potential fines.
