“It’s been a great start, obviously. It’s down to a number of things. Definitely, the defensive form has been key. We have kept a lot of clean sheets and conceded fewer goals,” Kelleher noted. He praised the team’s collective effort, mentioning the crucial tackles and blocks that have helped maintain their defensive solidity, especially in challenging away matches like Leipzig.
Looking ahead to the upcoming game in London, Kelleher acknowledged its significance in the title race, despite it being early in the season. Reflecting on last season’s result at the Emirates, he emphasized the need for better preparation this time around. “It’s going to be a tough game, obviously, it’s never easy at the Emirates, but we will do our best to be as well-prepared as we can and give it a good go.”
With Alisson sidelined, Kelleher is ready to step up and build on his recent standout performance in Europe, where he made five key saves. He’s eager to capitalize on the opportunity to get a series of starts rather than sporadic cup appearances and remains focused on his task without feeling the need for constant advice from Alisson.
Kelleher concluded, “I don’t need to say much as I know what to do, but yes, sometimes there are conversations. I just need to keep playing well when I have the opportunity. It is nice to get a run of games; it’s easier to prepare.”
