Galatasaray faced an uphill battle, needing to overturn a three-goal deficit from the first leg to stay in the competition. They went all out in attack, but this played right into AZ’s counter-attacking strategy.
Despite their relentless approach, the Turkish side rode their luck early on. In the 14th minute, Belic’s shot was miraculously cleared off the line, just moments after a last-ditch tackle stopped Poku from scoring.
However, AZ eventually found their breakthrough in the 42nd minute. Maikuma gave the visitors the lead with a fortunate goal—after driving into the six-yard box, a defender’s tackle caused the ball to bounce off his leg and into the net.
Shortly after halftime, AZ doubled their advantage in the 55th minute. Kasius capitalized on a high press, catching the goalkeeper off guard with a long-range strike to make it 2-0.
Galatasaray responded almost immediately. Just a minute later, Victor Osimhen found the net, giving his team a glimmer of hope. The Nigerian striker latched onto a lofted pass from Torreira, meeting it on the half-volley and firing past the goalkeeper to make it 2-1.

In the 70th minute, Galatasaray leveled the match at 2-2 when Sallai slotted home a cross from Yilmaz.
Despite late pressure from both sides, the score remained unchanged. AZ came close to adding a third, hitting both the post and the crossbar, but the match ended 2-2, sealing Galatasaray’s exit from the competition.
