Tottenham Beats Ipswich 4-1: Match Review And Premier League Standings Update

Tottenham Hotspur continued their impressive form in the Premier League, securing a dominant 4-1 victory over Ipswich Town at Portman Road. This win marked Spurs’ first set of three consecutive league victories since December 2023 and their first win over Ipswich this century....CONTINUE READING>>>

The match began with Ipswich looking to make an early impact. In the opening 30 seconds, Liam Delap unleashed a powerful low shot, which Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario brilliantly saved, denying Ipswich a dream start. Delap was a constant threat, testing Spurs’ defense with multiple attempts, including a header that struck the post within the first six minutes.

However, it was Tottenham who struck first in the 18th minute. A well-weighted long ball from Archie Gray found Son Heung-min on the left wing. Son displayed excellent footwork to evade Ben Godfrey, then delivered a low cross that Brennan Johnson tapped in at the back post. Moments later, the duo combined again, with Son delivering a perfect pass into the area, allowing Johnson to finish and score his second goal, giving Spurs a 2-0 lead before the half-hour mark.

Ipswich pulled one back nine minutes before halftime when Omari Hutchinson capitalized on a cutback from Jack Clarke, scoring his third goal of the season—all against traditional ‘big-six’ teams. This goal injected some life into the home side, but they struggled to maintain their momentum after the break, and the tempo of the match slowed.

In the second half, Spurs responded by introducing James Maddison, who made an immediate impact. His assist to Djed Spence, whose deflected strike restored Tottenham’s two-goal advantage, shifted the match back in Spurs’ favor. Dejan Kulusevski sealed the 4-1 victory with a brilliant solo effort, putting the final touch on a commanding performance.

The win leaves Ipswich in a difficult position, having now lost their last four Premier League home matches and going winless in their last seven across all venues. With Wolves securing a victory elsewhere, Ipswich now sits five points adrift of safety, with 12 matches remaining to try and salvage their season.
