Kwankwaso Declares Willingness to Serve as Obi’s Deputy

Rabiu Kwankwaso, a prominent political figure and presidential candidate for the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections, has expressed openness to becoming Peter Obi’s running mate in the 2027 presidential race, contingent on certain conditions being fulfilled. CONTINUE READING>>>

During the previous elections, Kwankwaso asserted that he could never serve as Obi’s deputy due to his significant political stature and extensive experience, which have elevated the NNPP in a short time. He emphasized that anything less than his presidency within the party would threaten its future.

Discussions for a potential merger between the NNPP and Labour Party fell through during the last election cycle, primarily over the contentious issue of who would take the presidential seat in such a union. Kwankwaso explained that some party representatives believed there should be specific criteria regarding age, qualifications, and past performance.

In a recently shared video on X (formerly Twitter), Kwankwaso addressed his audience in Hausa, stating, “I have a more substantial political presence than Peter Obi, and I consider myself his elder brother. With a PhD and my successful tenure as governor, I believe I have outperformed him. I would consider the role of deputy to Peter Obi, but only under certain conditions.” He added that he is open to discussions if trust can be established between them.

Kwankwaso’s political background showcases his extensive experience, while the Obidient movement has emerged rapidly, demonstrating its influence by achieving significant victories in the Federal Capital Territory and Lagos during the last elections.

In the 2023 election, Peter Obi secured the majority of votes in 11 states and the Federal Capital Territory, amassing around 6,101,533 votes to finish third.
