The 26-year-old winger has quickly become a favorite among fans, scoring two goals and providing one assist throughout the month and playing an important role in Atalanta’s successful start to the season.

Atalanta announced the award on their official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday. Lookman’s contributions were crucial in several matches, particularly in a thrilling 3-2 win over Fiorentina, where he assisted the equalizer and netted the decisive goal. His outstanding performance in that match earned him the MVP title.

In addition, Lookman scored during Atalanta’s 3-2 defeat to Como, converting a penalty that helped reduce the score. His strong performance throughout September has carried over into the UEFA Champions League, where he has also contributed a goal and an assist in two games.

Fans of Atalanta voted Lookman as their Player of the Month through the club’s official app, praising his dribbling skills, creativity, and finishing ability. His closest competitor for the award was Serbian midfielder Lazar Samardžić, who finished in second place, while last month’s winner, Mateo Retegui, came in third.

On the international stage, Lookman had two goals controversially disallowed during Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Libya in the first leg of the AFCON qualifiers. Despite this disappointment, he remains focused on maintaining his excellent form for the second leg on Tuesday as the Super Eagles strive to secure their spot in AFCON 2025.
