Sports Minister Takes Action Over Super Eagles’ Stranded Situation in Libya

In a statement on Monday, Enoh condemned the poor treatment the team faced and revealed that he had contacted relevant authorities, including the Foreign Affairs Minister and the National Security Adviser, to ensure the players’ safety.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed that the Super Eagles were left without proper care at the airport, lacking food, accommodation, and basic services for over 15 hours. Enoh said the team described the situation as feeling like they were being held “almost like hostages,” surrounded by Libyan security forces and not allowed to leave the airport.

A video shared by the Eagles’ media team showed the players stranded with their luggage, visibly frustrated by the lack of attention from Libyan officials. Enoh expressed deep concern for the players’ safety and well-being, stating, “Our priority now is to ensure the safety of the national team.” He also confirmed that the Super Eagles would not participate in the scheduled match against Libya due to the “trauma and psychological stress” they had endured.

The minister also mentioned that the Nigerian government had formally complained to CAF and was holding the Libyan Football Federation responsible for the unacceptable treatment of the Super Eagles.
