Sources, including reports from Daily Trust, indicated that the governors are worried about internal divisions within the party and are eager to unify ahead of the upcoming elections.

They agreed that Damagum would remain in his role until the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for October 24.The Akure meeting included notable figures such as Damagum, Deputy National Chairman for the South Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, and Balam Mohammed, the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.

Other attendees included Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo) and Ademola Adeleke (Osun), along with several other party leaders.This meeting followed a virtual gathering of the PDP Governors’ Forum, where Governor Adeleke reportedly expressed his concerns about the internal crisis caused by Damagum’s leadership, fearing it could negatively impact his re-election prospects in 2026 as one of the first-term governors seeking a second term.

In a direct exchange, Governor Adeleke challenged Governor Mutfwang of Plateau State for not backing the North-Central’s push to maintain the chairmanship and instead supporting Damagum, who is not from the region, despite Mutfwang’s own North-Central ties and status as a first-term governor.

In response, Mutfwang stated that he now supports the North-Central’s claim to the next National Chairman position, aligning with the party’s constitution to address the leadership crisis.
