He explained that during the June 12, 1993 crisis, when Igbos left the Northern region of Nigeria, Yakasai struggled to find the spare parts he needed to fix his car.Okonkwo said that Yakasai’s experience highlighted the interdependence of Nigeria’s ethnic groups.

This situation helped him understand that the various communities across the country are essential to one another’s survival. Okonkwo quoted Yakasai, saying, “During the June 12 period, when the Igbos left the north, I couldn’t find the spare part I needed for my car.
