Supreme Court Responds to Governors’ Legal Challenge Against EFCC’s Authority

This legal battle, initially initiated by the Kogi State Government, contends that the EFCC’s operations may overstep its legal authority.

Following oral arguments presented by the lawyers on Tuesday, the seven-member judicial panel, led by Justice Uwani Abba-Aji, decided to reserve judgment on the matter. States such as Ondo, Edo, Oyo, and Ogun joined Kogi as co-plaintiffs in the suit, while some, like Anambra, Adamawa, and Ebonyi, have recently withdrawn.

The outcome of this case could have major implications for the authority of federal anti-corruption bodies in relation to state governments.
