Nwekeaku stated that these politicians feel threatened by Kanu’s rising popularity and are attempting to stifle his influence by keeping him incarcerated. He noted that Kanu has identified specific politicians who he claims are involved in his continued detention, although Nwekeaku chose not to reveal their names.
In an interview with Arise TV, he explained, “Some politicians in the South East feel insecure about their popularity because many people support Nnamdi Kanu and the principles he represents. It’s clear that Kanu has gained significant popularity in the South East, and if he were released today, those who hide behind IPOB to engage in criminal activities would no longer be able to do so, as he holds significant authority.”
