Impersonator of LASTMA Official Arrested, Claims Daily Earnings of N15,000 to N25,000 from Extortion

A man named Adewunmi Taiwo, 45, was arrested for impersonating an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to extort money from drivers. According to LASTMA’s post, Taiwo, who claims to be from Ilesha in Osun State and is married with three children, admitted during questioning that he used the uniform to deceive drivers on busy routes like Ikorodu Road and the Oshodi to Mile 2 expressway. Taiwo provided additional information regarding his operations and is expected to be turned over to the police for prosecution. Many Lagos residents have voiced concerns about individuals impersonating traffic officials and extorting money by falsely accusing them of breaking non-existent traffic laws.
