According to reports, Madaki was invited for questioning by the police on Wednesday and has remained in their custody since then. The police spokesperson in Kano, Haruna Abdullahi, confirmed the development on Thursday morning, stating that an investigation is ongoing.

Madaki is the house of representatives member-elect for Dala federal constituency of Kano. The development comes days after Alhassan Doguwa, the majority leader of the house of representatives, was also arrested by the police for his alleged role in attacks in Kano state during the general election.

There were violent clashes in Kano during the elections, allegedly sponsored by candidates contesting for elective office. This has raised concerns about the use of violence and illegal firearms during elections, and the need for strict measures to prevent such occurrences.

The arrest of Madaki has led to reactions from members of the NNPP and other political parties. While some have expressed their support for the police action, others have called for Madaki’s immediate release, describing his arrest as politically motivated.

The NNPP has released a statement condemning Madaki’s arrest and calling for his immediate release. They described his detention as “unwarranted and unjust,” stating that he is being persecuted for his political beliefs.

The opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has also reacted to Madaki’s arrest, calling for a thorough investigation into the matter. The party expressed concern over the use of illegal firearms during elections, stating that it poses a threat to democracy and the safety of citizens.
