The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reportedly made a contract extension offer to Jose Peseiro, the coach of the senior national team after his tenure expired. As of now, the negotiations between the NFF and Peseiro’s team are still ongoing to reach an agreement on finances, which is the main issue holding the deal from happening.

Despite failing to reach an agreement on extending his stay before his tenure expired, both parties are still striving to find common ground. The initial offer made by the NFF is the same amount that Peseiro was earning after he agreed to take a pay cut for a short-term deal for the period of the AFCON.

However, according to reports by OwnGoalNigeria, a higher offer of 80,000 dollars has been made by the representative of the NFF to Peseiro’s team. It is believed that the present offer has the backing of the Ministry for Sports, which intends to shoulder part of the coach’s bills.

The Minister for Sports, John Enoh, is reportedly keen on having Peseiro in charge for the resumption of the qualifiers for the World Cup 2026. Reports indicate that Jose Peseiro has a good relationship with the minister, and this could be a key factor in his decision to remain with the team.

Regardless of what the current offer is believed to contain, reports indicate that with offers from various clubs and countries still pouring in, Jose Peseiro is still keeping his options open. It remains to be seen where the coach will end up, but it is evident that the NFF is eager to keep him on board.
