Police Eliminate Notorious Sea Pirate, John Togo, in Rivers

Police report links John Togo to the murder of four security personnel in Degema Local Government of Rivers on November 4, 2023.

CP Olatunji Disu, Rivers Commissioner of Police, discloses the demise of the infamous pirate during a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday.

According to Disu, Togo who was an anchor of the Iceland cult group has been involved in armed robbery, arms trafficking, sea piracy and kidnapping.

He revealed that Togo who has been on the wanted list of the Police Command was responsible for the ambush and killing of four security personnel around Degema Local Government Area coastal community on November 4, 2023.

Explaining how he was eventually killed, CP Disu explained that acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the C41 intelligence unit of the command and Borokiri Police Division trailed Togo to his hideout.

He said Togo was killed during the gunfight with security operatives.

In another operation, CP Disu also revealed that operatives of the Command rescued three victims abducted from their residence at Omuoluta Igwurita Ali in Ikwerre Local Government Area early hours of Sunday 28, January 2024 from kidnappers.

CP Disu gave their names as Blessing Egbuna, Sonia and Chinaza.

He said good Samaritans who observed when six masked gunmen who were seen abducting the young ladies contacted the Police and the Police mobilized and intercepted the gunmen.

He said the officers engaged the kidnappers in a shoot out and they abandoned the kidnapped victims and fled.

The Commissioner of Police commended the officers for the feat achieved and urged the public to continue cooperating with the Police to eradicate crime and criminality in the State.
