Speculator Dragged to Court Over Alleged Damage to N55 Million Property

Habeeb Abolarinwa, a Suspected Property Speculator aged 38, Arrested by Nigeria Police at Zone 2 Command, Lagos, and Charged Before Lagos Magistrates Court for Alleged Conspiracy to Damage N55 Million Property Belonging to Shamsideen Sule Akani

A suspected property speculator, Habeeb Abolarinwa, 38, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police at the Zone 2 Command, Lagos and charged before a Lagos Magistrates court for allegedly conniving with others still at large to damage a house and shops valued at N55m belonging to a complainant Shamsideen Sule Akani.

Police alleged that Akani was ordered arrested by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG in charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos following a petition by the complainant.

After an investigation by ASP Konike Ahmed and team, the defendant was charged before the Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos Island on a five-count charge bordering on forcible entry, malicious damage and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

Police prosecuting counsel, ASP Francis Igbinosa told the court in the charge marked Q/6A/2024 that the defendant committed the offence in May 2021 at Abule-Odu, Idimu, Lagos.

Igbinosa informed the court that the defendant led others still at large to damage a house and shops valued at N55m belonging to the complainant for unjustifiable reasons.

He said the defendant in August 2021 wrote a false and malicious petition against the complainant by describing him as a notorious land grabber and that during investigation, the police discovered that the allegation was false which amounted to giving false information to the Inspector General of Police

Igbinosa said the offences, the defendant committed were punishable under Sections 412, 52, 114, 168(6) and 95 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and Magistrate, Mrs. Balogun granted him N2m bail with two sureties in like sum.

Balogun adjourned the case till 11 March 2024 for mention and ordered that the defendant be detained at the Ikoyi Correctional Facility till he perfected the bail conditions
