INEC Denies Allegations Of Partisanship In Adamawa Elections

In a statement issued on Thursday by INEC’s National Commissioner and chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, INEC denied all allegations stating that no such meeting took place prior to the supplementary election held on Saturday 25, April 2023.

“Such a meeting would have been contrary to the oath of neutrality that we all swore to”. He stated.

NATO Chief Makes First Visit To Kyiv Since Russian Invasion

NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg made an unannounced visit to Kyiv on Thursday — his first since the Russian invasion, Ukrainian media and a NATO official said.

The Kyiv Independent newspaper published images of Stoltenberg in central Kyiv, in front of a memorial for fallen soldiers.

The photographs showed Stoltenberg with his head down in front of the memorial.

Many Western officials travelling to Kyiv do not announce their trips in advance for security reasons.

“The NATO Secretary General is in Ukraine. We will release more information as soon as possible,” a NATO official said.

How Father Chained, Starved 2 Children To Death

Operatives of the Ogun security network, also known as the Amotekun Corps, have arrested a 45-year-old man, Gbenga Ogunfadeke, for allegedly chaining and locking his two children in solitary confinement which led to their death.

Mr David Akinremi, the State Commander of the Amotekun Corps, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta.

Akinremi explained that the suspect was arrested on Tuesday, April 18 in Ibiade, Ogun Waterside Local Government Area of the state by men of the corps.

His arrest came after his ex-wife filed a complaint. According to the statement, the suspect, a father of three, accused his children of stealing.

Akinremi said the suspect was alleged to have chained and locked the children in solitary confinement without food and water for over three months which led to the death of two of the children.

He stated that the corps gathered that the suspect had been maltreating the children aged 16, 17 and 18 since he took custody of them following his crashed marriage with their mother, Busola Otusegun.

I Remain LP’s Chairman–Apapa

The acting national chairman of the Labour Party, Lamidi Apapa, says his suspension as a member of the party is invalid, noting that he remains the ‘legitimate acting chairman.’

The factional chairman who admitted the notice was surprising said the purported meeting chaired yesterday lacked the authority to effect his suspension.

He also stated that the presidential candidate of the party in the elections, Peter Obi, has not responded to his calls despite several attempts to reach him.

“I have called Mr Peter Obi several times as the chairman but he didn’t pick up my calls,” he said.

The PUNCH reports that the national working committee of LP, on Tuesday suspended Apapa alongside five others over “anti-party activities, contravening the constitution of the party and running of parallel leadership and putting the party in total disrepute”. Continue Reading…
