The aggrieved workers lambasted the governor for allowing the Muslim faithful to celebrate last week’s Sallah on an empty stomach.

They accused him of punishing them because of the outcome of the 2023 governorship election in the state which he lost to Dauda Lawal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Lawal as the winner of the poll with 377,726 votes while Matawalle polled 311,976 votes.

Of the 11 governors who sought to be reelected, he was the only one who failed to be reelected.

According to some of the workers who spoke to SaharaReporters, Matawalle vowed not to pay them ‘a dime till he hands over’ to the new leader.

They said the governor’s failure to pay them foisted on them a bleak Eid-El-Fitri celebration.

“Hunger and confusion in Zamfara as Governor Matawalle has refused to pay workers’ salaries since losing (the governorship) election. He has also vowed not to pay a dime till he hands over. We workers celebrated Sallah on an empty stomach. The worst Sallah most of us experienced in our life is that of 2023; no food, nothing,”

Another one added, “No salary again in Zamfara state since our governor lost election. Despite Ramadan, no sign of payment before he leaves in May, please help the workers.”

A message was sent to Commissioner for Information in the state, Hon. Ibrahim Magaji Dosara to seek the state government’s reaction to the allegation but it had not been replied to at the time of filing this report. … Continue Reading.
