INEC Reveals What Obi And Atiku Can Do If The Election Results Isn’t Acceptable by Them

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has reacted to the appeal made by PDP and labour party for the resignation of Yakubu Mahmood as the chairman over alleged discrepancies in the 2023 presidential election results.

According to Daily Premium Gist, in a statement signed by the Chief press secretary to INEC, Rotimi Oyekanmi, the call for Yakubu’s resignation was described as “misplaced” by the commission. CONTINUE READING

The commission declared that the results from the presidential election are pointers to a free, fair and credible process. The aggrieved parties, PDP and Labour party were urged to follow laid down procedures as they are free to approach the courts to challenge the results.

Part of the statement reads:

There are laid down procedures for aggrieved parties or candidates to follow when they are dissatisfied about the outcome of an election. Such procedures do not include calling on the INEC Chairman to resign or for the election to be cancelled”.

“To be sure, aggrieved parties are free to approach the courts to ventilate their concerns and wait for the matter to be resolved. Making inciting comments capable of causing violence or unrest is unacceptable.”
