The Search and Questioning

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have conducted a search of the Abuja home and office of the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa. CONTINUE FULL READING>>>

The search took place at his Gwarinpa home in Abuja, where his wife and children were present, and at his office in the EFCC Headquarters in Jabi.

The DSS operatives presented a search warrant for both locations. Additionally, close associates of Bawa at the EFCC have been invited for questioning by the DSS.

They are being investigated for alleged mismanagement, misappropriation, and diversion of proceeds of sold assets that were forfeited to the EFCC.

Response from the DSS

Bawa’s Detention

Abdulrasheed Bawa is currently being held in the custody of the DSS at the “Yellow House” in Abuja. He is being probed for alleged financial impropriety during his time as the EFCC chairman. Following his suspension by President Bola Tinubu on June 14, the DSS took Bawa into custody.

Investigation Status

According to a government source, the DSS has yet to file charges against Bawa as the investigation is still ongoing. The DSS is reportedly gathering sufficient evidence to support their case.

Efforts to Extend Detention

The DSS has obtained an ex parte order to extend Bawa’s detention while they continue with their investigation. This move is seen as an attempt to prevent Bawa from filing lawsuits to challenge his detention.

EFCC’s Response

The spokesperson for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, did not respond to inquiries regarding the development.
