Asiwaju Tinubu noted that Governor Nyesom Wike is fighting corruption by improving welfare and creating a positive work environment for the state’s judiciary in a speech he gave in Rivers at the opening of the new 24-courtroom Rivers State Magistrate Court that was built by the administration in Port Harcourt.

To put Wike’s actions in another light, he is combating corruption, the man stated. This is how one combats corruption. You don’t expect your judges to function in filth or administer justice. This is one of the components of the adjustments our policy think-tank has to make. In order to combat corruption, we must consider the other side of the coin. Pay attention to your judges’ well-being if you don’t want them to be crooked. If you want justice to be administered fairly, don’t put them in risky situations at work.

Think about value for money. If you ask me to pay for the automobile I need at, say, N5 million or N6 million and I don’t have consumer credit, it is a very strong incentive for corruption. Consumer credit, however, will lessen your inclination for corruption.

“We don’t want our judges or justices to misbehave or undermine the rule of law.” Not just the books but also the action. We will evaluate each of them in our policy think tank, I swear.

The President-elect commented on the conflicting responses to his “I don’t owe you anything” statement on Wednesday in response to Wike’s demand for a refund of funds used by the Rivers State Government to upgrade federal roads. “Whatever you say about owing or not owing, I am very grateful to the man (Wike) who brought me here,” he said. He didn’t seek a commitment from the individual. He requested a commitment to a policy that an incoming president is not authorized to make or approve.
