Lagos declared best state in public procurement compliance
Lagos was named the Best State in Procurement Compliance at the 5th Africa Procurement and Supply Chain Awards 2023, held at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island.
This is contained in a statement issued by Oladapo Olatunde, Director, Public Affairs, Lagos State Public Procurement Agency.
Mr. Fatai Idowu Onafowote, the Agency’s Director-General, was also named Public Sector Procurement Personality of the Year at the event, which was attended by business and professional leaders from throughout Africa, including Nigeria, Ghana, the Gambia, and Tanzania.
Three Procurement Officers in the Lagos State Civil Service, including Mrs. Bolanle Riskat Adeniran, the Director of Procurement in LAWMA, Mr. Jijoho Kappo, the Director of Procurement in the State Ministry of Justice, and Mrs. Iyabo Okoya-Adelanwa, were also recognised at the event for their exemplary performance as professionals in procurement.
Mrs. Niniola Rasheedat Balogun-Are, Procurement Officer of Kosofe Local Government, and Mrs. Rafiat Amoke Abijo-Aregbe, Procurement Officer of Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area, both earned accolades for their outstanding performance.
Other recipients at the event include Lafarge plc., MTN, Ghana’s Volta River Authority, Nigerian Bottling Company plc., Tanzania’s CRDB Bank, and a slew of others.
Mr. Emem James Kanico, National President of the Association of Public Procurement Professionals of Nigeria (APPON), stated at the event, titled Celebrating the Achievements of Africa’s Supply Chain and Procurement Sector, that sound procurement practise is the key to good governance.
As a result, he urged governments at all levels to create an enabling climate for due process in public procurement to flourish.
Mr. Kanico also praised the Director-General of the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency, Mr. Fatai Idowu Onafowote, for the huge strides the Agency has made in public procurement in the state.
