Ohanaeze: Igbos Should Relocate Businesses Back Home After Lagos Market Demolitions

The organization emphasizes that the decision to relocate aims to provide a fallback position for the Ndigbo community while reaffirming their commitment to contributing to the development of Nigeria as a whole.

This decision comes in response to the demolition of certain sections of the Alaba International market in Lagos state.

According to Ohanaeze, relocating their businesses to the South will provide the Ndigbo community with a safety net in case they face political challenges.

However, they emphasized that their regional loyalty should remain within the South East and not extend to Lagos. 

The Statement reads, ”Ohanaeze has already told the Igbos to relocate the headquarters of their businesses back home to have a fallback position when politics are targeted against them.

Our Republicanism should end in the South East; they should not take it to Lagos. Some people threatened Igbos to leave Lagos, but we won’t leave any part of Nigeria for anybody because we have contributed to the development and building of economies of every state and Local government in Nigeria.”

The organization expressed concern over the reported threats to the Igbos living in Lagos and stressed that they will not be forced out of any part of Nigeria, as they have actively contributed to the development and economic growth of various states and local governments across the country.

The instruction to relocate their business headquarters aims to ensure that the Ndigbo community has a stronger presence in their homeland while still appreciating their contributions to the larger Nigerian society.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong economic foothold in the South East, where the majority of the Igbo population resides.

By relocating their businesses back to their home region, the Ndigbo community seeks to establish a fallback position that can protect them from potential political targeting.
