Shehu Sani recalls protesting in support of fuel subsidy during Babangida regime

Shehu Sani, a former senator for Kaduna Central, claimed during an interview with TVC News that, he campaigned against the elimination of fuel subsidies, during the administrations of Ibahim Babangida, Sani Abacha, and few past leaders. CONTINUE READING>>>

He further stated that, if the subsidy was not eliminated, this conflict would persist.

He stated during the interview that, We will continue to pay trillions of dollars, to those who don’t generate anything, in the name of merely importing.

We now have the chance to retake control of our refineries, allowing us to construct more buildings, refine our oil, supply it to our population, and put an end to the practise of paying enormous sums of money to strangers. He continued, “I wholeheartedly endorse the current discussion process, between the federal government, the NNPCL, and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Additionally, we can find a solution through conversation. We were fighting on the streets during the Obasanjo and Jonathan administrations, but it seems that this will continue forever.

During Babangida regime, we were on the streets demonstrating, in favour of fuel subsidies; during the Abacha dictatorship, many of us even went to court to oppose him.

He concluded that, The government of the nation, must stop paying some individuals trillions of naira, simply for bringing our gasoline back into the nation. He continued by saying that, the country now has a chance to restore order to its refineries.
