Tinubu Assured Nigerians That APC Will Not Permit PDP To Take Over National Assembly

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has assured Nigerians that the party will not allow the opposition to take over the National Assembly. CONTINUE READING>>>

Tinubu, who was represented by the APC Southwest National Vice Chairman, Isaac Kekemeke, made the statement during a lecture held in honor of Afenifere Leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, on his 97th birthday.

Kekemeke stated that the party still has enough time to reconcile warring factions ahead of the inauguration of the National Assembly. He also allayed fears that the opposition would hijack the leadership of the National Assembly.

He reassured Nigerians that the President-elect and the party are working tirelessly to address any perceived issues and ensure that the National Assembly is led by APC lawmakers. He emphasized that Nigeria is a democracy, and therefore, the opposition would not take over the National Assembly.

Recall that last week, the APC endorsed Senator Godswill Akpabio and Tajudeen Abbas as Senate President and House of Representatives Speaker, respectively. However, some aspirants for the leadership positions have threatened to boycott the party.

In 2015, Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara emerged as winners of the leadership of the National Assembly against the wishes of the ruling APC. This incident caused a rift between the executive and legislative arms of the government, resulting in a lack of cooperation and delayed passage of crucial bills.

Tinubu’s assurance comes amid tensions within the party over the leadership of the National Assembly.

It remains to be seen whether the APC can successfully reconcile the factions and prevent a repeat of the 2015 scenario.
