BREAKING NEWS: Inter-society Drags 4 Sitting Governors, INEC to 31 International Missions

The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law has summoned four current governors of Nigeria and top INEC officials to 31 foreign embassies, including those in the US and EU, on claims of voter intimidation and election fraud. Governors Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna, Hope Uzodinma of Imo, and Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State are among those accused, in addition to INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

Due to their alleged involvement in electoral fraud during the Nigerian presidential and national assembly elections on February 25, a human rights organization by the name of Intersociety also requested that the 31 foreign missions impose visa bans and other international entry restrictions, as well as block international engagements and recognitions for the public figures listed……. In a letter signed by the chairman of the Intersociety Board of Trustees, Emeka Umeagbalasi, and other top officials, it asked that the 31 foreign missions return the assets of the aforementioned people and their wards to Nigeria. The human rights group equally asked the foreign missions to: “Ensure that all members of their nuclear families living or holidaying or studying anywhere in the named respected countries and their assets and liabilities are speedily repatriated back to Nigeria and permanently embargoed from finding their way back to the respected countries.

“In particular, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu and Festus Okoye Esquire should be permanently banned from traveling to any of the 31 respected Democratic countries mentioned, including with their nuclear families. They should also be denied access to international forums and opportunities to speak loudly and obnoxiously.

“Thoroughly examine future funding and international democracy support money to INEC and its approving CSOs, including scholarships and sponsorship of their overseas travel, exchange programs, and speech giving.

“Downward assessment of funding for election day monitoring and upward review of supporting independent CSOs’ crucial oversight of INEC, particularly during Continuous Voters’ Registration and Distribution of Permanent Voters’ Cards to prevent disenfranchisement and improve enfranchisement”

“Apply enough pressure and tie future funding for democracy support to INEC to dualize voting in the nation or any portion thereof to include electronic PVC and manual PVC voting; whereby registered voters can vote from their homes or choose to physically cast their ballots at polling places with their votes counting.”…… Continue Reading
