BREAKING: We Owe You The Truth, We’ll Meet In Court -Tinubu Accepts Peter Obi’s Challenge

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has declared his willingness to defend his mandate in court, saying he accepts the choice of the Labour Party LP candidate, Mr Peter Obi, to dispute the election results.

“We watched with dismay today’s press conference addressed by the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, where he made very strange and wild claims about the outcome of the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections, an election in which he emerged as the second runner-up, according to the result declared by INEC,” the statement reads in part.

“We appreciate the determination of Mr Obi to seek remedy in court as an aggrieved party if he is confident of the evidence of electoral irregularities he would put before the tribunal as indicated. Tinubu went on to say that before Mr Obi goes to court, he believes it is vital to question some particular statements in his press speech.

Contrary to Obi’s assertion, Tinubu believes the 2023 election will be one of the most transparent and peaceful in Nigerian history. He claimed that the credibility of the process allowed Mr Obi’s Labour Party to receive more over six million votes, contrary to the pre-election estimate.

“We feel that the Labour Party Presidential Candidate contradicted himself and exposed himself to public ridicule by claiming that the election was only credible in states and areas won by his party.

“We need us to forewarn Mr Obi, that when he comes to court he should be prepared to tell the world how his party won over 90% of votes in his region of South East while other parties got nearly nothing. In the South East, we have evidence of voter suppression, intimidation, and harassment, particularly of those who turned out to vote for our party.

“Furthermore when Mr Obi comes to court, he would have to satisfy the court with his accusation of rigging in over 40,000 voting units across the country, especially in North West and North East where his party had no party agents and did not sign results sheets as required by law. Because the Labour Party is a PDP affiliate, we believe it would enlist PDP agents to prove its fraud charges.

“We want to reiterate again for the umpteenth time that Mr Obi didn’t win the presidential election and could not have won under any circumstances. This is because, in a multi-ethnic and multi-religious culture like Nigeria, where a candidate standing in a national election must appeal to a cross-section of our heterogeneous community, he had no chance of winning a national election.

“We owe Labour Party and Peter Obi the stark truth: They failed in the election. “No amount of red herring and misinformation regarding the election and its outcome can erase this truth,” the APC PCC continued.
