ECOWAS advises Buhari on what to do before the presidential Election on Saturday

The mission led by Ernest Bai Koroma, a former president of Sierra Leone, called on the current administration to demonstrate its proactivity in addressing the fuel shortage and Naira crunch problems that are putting the country’s citizens through unimaginable hardship ahead of Saturday’s presidential, senate, and house of representatives elections.

When Koroma met with Geoffrey Onyeama, the minister of foreign affairs, on Wednesday in Abuja, ECOWAS issued its warning.

Speaking on behalf of the expedition, Koroma stated: “We have certain reservations over the gasoline supply. Everyone’s mobility, including INEC’s, would be impacted by its restriction.

“The lack of available cash and the system’s low level of liquidity are two additional issues. Both our observers and the political parties we have met have voiced worry about this.

“Today, there are security challenges that specifically impact certain locales and regions in addition to these two broad worries.

As we approach these crucial elections, we will all want the administration to address these challenges.

Onyeama said that the administration has faced significant difficulties due to the shortage of petrol and naira. He did, however, reassure that the government is working hard to lessen the burden on Nigerians.

“On the subject of cash availability and gasoline – big issues,” he remarked. Yet I am aware that steps are being done to address the gasoline shortage.

“Banks should be more accessible, and the financial institutions will distribute the N200 notes.”

Onyeama urged candidates and their respective parties to maintain peace and order throughout the campaign.
