The Senate President Can’t go to Southeast, We’re not talking about the Presidency of the country – Wike

In a recent statement issued by former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, the topic of zoning the senate presidency was discussed. The statement, released on Tuesday and signed by Wike’s Media Aide, Kelvin Ebiri, emphasized that the senate presidency should be allocated to the south-south region rather than the south-east. Wike firmly expressed that the discussions regarding the senate presidency have concluded.

He highlighted the reason behind advocating for the south-south to receive the position, stating that while the south-east has already produced more than seven senate presidents, the south-south has only had one. The statement read:

““There is an ongoing debate about the allocation of the Senate presidency and House leadership positions in the country, and my stance is clear.”

Wike posed a question to those who support the notion of the senate presidency going to the southern region, asking where it should be allocated.

He stated that the southwest and southeast regions are not suitable candidates for this position, as the south-south has had only one Senate president in its history (Joseph Wayas, back in 1979), while the southeast has produced over seven senate presidents.
