With the swearing-in scheduled for the 29th of May, 2023, the federal government has invited about 65 world leaders, including Heads of State to grace the inauguration. Also, past presidents, diplomats, heads of international organisations and prominent Nigerians and representatives of foreign governments and agencies are expected at the nation’s seventh transition ceremony. 

As the days draw closer, it becomes necessary to examine some of the things that could happen during and after Tinubu’s inauguration.

Tinubu is expected to deliver a speech to Nigerians on the inauguration day, which would take place at Eagle Square. In his inaugural speech, Tinubu is likely to talk about his vision for Nigeria and what he hopes to achieve during his presidency. His plans could offer hope to Nigerians and renew their confidence in his presidency.

Tinubu’s speech could pacify Nigerians who are aggrieved by the outcome of the 25th of February elections which was reportedly marred by malpractices and irregularities.

Nationwide protests by Nigerian youths

Most Nigerian youths believe that the election that produced Tinubu as president-elect was rigorously rigged. In a tweet, Nigerian Activist, Aisha Yeshufu said, Tinubu stole the election in such a crude manner plus violence.” This reason is why there have been predictions that Nigerian youths in urban areas could organise a protest.

One such prediction was released by Fitch Solutions.  The global ratings and advisory agency in its report said, “We expect that protests are likely over the short-term, particularly in urban areas such as Lagos. The LP drew significant support from members of the #EndSars protest movement, which launched a series of protests in the commercial capital in 2020.” 

It also noted that the protest will depend on how the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi and other opposition figures react in the coming days. 

APC youth launch concert

While a section of Nigerian youths are displeased with Tinubu’s win, leaders of the youth wing in the All Progressives Congress (APC) are rejoicing. They have planned an inauguration concert as an inclusive celebratory activity for young people across the country who contributed to the party’s victory and the emergence of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the last presidential election. 

The concert is tagged “Renewed Hope Concert” and could take place at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja, today. Tinubu’s son, Seyi is the chairman of the organising committee.

The court could overturn Tinubu’s win

Opposition parties including the Labour Party, LP and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP are challenging Tinubu’s win at the Presidential Election Petitions Court, PEPC. They are hopeful that the petition court will overturn Tinubu’s win. 

The Justice Haruna Tsammani-led panel who adjourned further proceedings in Atiku’s petition till today said the court would decide on the number of witnesses that would be allowed for each of the parties, the time to be allocated to them, as well as the time to be allowed for cross-examination. Also, the court adjourned Obi’s petition till today following the failure of the parties to harmonise the documents germane to their pleadings.

Tinubu would inherit insecurity, subsidy crisis and economic stability

Once Tinubu is inaugurated as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he will inherit a lot of challenges that defied solutions under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. Some of those problems include high rates of loans, inflation, unemployment, poverty, insecurity, and power supply amongst many others.
