The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) last night postponed the Saturday, March 11, governorship and state assembly elections to March 18, 2023.

The commission announced the postponement of the elections at the end of its management meeting, chaired by the chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, in Abuja.

Court refuses Obi’s request to stop INEC from reconfiguring BVAS

The court of appeal has refused to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from reconfiguring the bimodal voter accreditation system (BVAS) ahead of the governorship and state assembly elections.

In the ruling delivered on Wednesday, a three-member panel of the court of appeal led by Joseph Ikyegh, held that restraining the electoral commission would constrain INEC from conducting the March 11 elections.

In an application, Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), had sought an order of the court “restraining the 1st respondent (INEC) from tampering with the information embedded in the BVAS machines until the due inspection is conducted and certified true copies (CTC) of them issued”.

Gubernatorial candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo State, Barrister Michael Folorunsho Lana has declared that he is not stepping down for the gubernatorial candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Teslim Folarin.

Lana, a former commissioner of justice and attorney general made this disclosure while addressing a press conference Wednesday evening in Ibadan.

DAILY POST gathered that some leaders of the party had earlier pledged their support for Folarin.

 

Ekiti approves bill to establish wealth fund

Ekiti State Government has approved the establishment of a fund designed to receive, manage and invest in a diversified portfolio of medium and long term assets for the state, and for future generations of indigenes and residents.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Yinka Oyebode, said that approval for the establishment of the Fund, named Ekiti State Wealth Fund, was one of the decisions reached at the meeting presided over by Governor Biodun Oyebanji on Wednesday.

Oyebode, in statement titled, “Ekiti to establish state wealth fund”, said that the bill on the establishment of the state wealth fund would be presented to the State House of Assembly for legislative processing and subsequent passage into law.
