Super Eagles legend tipped to step in as interim coach after Peseiro's exit

Aformer Super Eagles of Nigeria player is reportedly set to take charge of the team as the interim coach following the exit of the former head coach Jose Peseiro.

Reports now indicate that a former Super Eagles of Nigeria player might be posed to make a return as the interim coach of the squad ahead of the World Cup 2026 qualifiers and AFCON 2025 following the departure of Jose Peseiro.

According to media outlet Own Goal Nigeria, former Super Eagles of Nigeria player and coach Austin Eguaveon is set to take on the role as the interim manager of the team ahead of upcoming fixtures in the World Cup 2026 qualifiers.

It was reported that Austin Equaveon is expected to take up the role based on his current position as the technical director of the Super Eagles, till a new head coach is hired by the NFF. Equaveon who was in charge of the team at AFCON 2021 is expected to be in charge of the team for future upcoming games and he will also be assisted by Finidi George who is believed to be integral in the current set up as he has been a member of Jose Peseiro’s coaching staff.
