Speaking during an interview with African Independent Television’s “Kakake” program on Monday morning, Afigwa insisted that while opposition parties celebrated the annulment of Moshood Abiola’s victory in what was considered the freest and fairest election in three decades, some politicians and candidates are. He said; “What makes the debacle of June 12th so intrinsic and unique is the fact that it was about a credible election. It was determined to be free and fair. We’re still talking about June 12th, but the current politicians, the contestants, and those involved from the whole process, did they learn any lessons from it, didn’t they? They’re asking for another annulment as we speak?

I think the human element of June 12th is what we should be looking at. There are lawsuits going on right now just because it’s democratic. Under the military, there is no room for litigation. They rule by decree.

So, while you were shouting June 12th, those in the NRC (National Republican Convention) were celebrating nullity. This is the same scenario some candidates are hoping for today. They want to annul Tinubu’s victory despite accusing the military of cutting off our democracy many years ago.”
