The APC presidential candidate confirmed he met the president after the primary election of the APC and he requested that Buhari nominate his vice-president but he declined.

Speaking to Buhari and the massive crowd at the rally, Tinubu said: “I came to you to nominate for me, just like I did to you in 2015 but instead of giving me the same coin, you said No.”

Tinubu added that Buhari told him “You know better and you are better experienced” and encouraged him.

The APC candidate noted that after the meeting with the President, he decided to choose Kasshim Shettima.

Giving his reasons for choosing Shettima, Tinubu said: “I chose one of the most known, most knowledgeable, an individual independent in thought, attitude, capacity, and knowledgeability.”

The former of Lagos also said Shettima has shown perseverance, determination, and grit in challenging times.

He added that Shettima fought insurgency with all his powers and protected both Christians and Muslims during his time as governor of Borno State.

Tinubu said: “He (Shettima) did face the challenge. He protected both Christians and Muslims. We worked together on it and I knew him more that time.”

The APC presidential candidate added that “Shettima is a reliable, dependable and a courageous man.”
