Imo: Election Didn’t Hold In Some Polling Units In Okigwe But INEC Announced Results – LP Senatorial Candidate

With the outcome of the just-concluded presidential elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) still a topic of hot debate in Nigeria, Labour Party (LP) senatorial candidate in Imo, Ifeanyi Araraume Jr. has come out to accuse the nation’s electoral umpire of foul play in the polls that took place in the state a fortnight ago.

Speaking during an interview with Rufai Oseni on Voice Of The People FM on Sunday, Araraume, who contested to represent Imo North Senatorial District (Okigwe Zone) on the platform of the Labour Party, alleged that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Patrick Ndubueze was declared the winner based on fictitious results that were written for places where elections did not hold in Okigwe Local Government Area of the state…..Continue Reading 

He said; “Rigging was triggered in seven units where INEC had told us elections were not going to hold because of insecurity.

In places like Ihube, which is probably the most dangerous place to live in right now in Nigeria. For example, I’m sure you remember the story of the female army captain and her fiance that were killed in Imo, it happened in Ihube.

In fact, the former Deputy Governor of my state, Engineer Ben Udeagu died and could not be buried there. It took a lot of persuasion and deployment of security personnel before he could be buried in Ihube.

Also, a week to the election, the current Commissioner for Sports in Imo State, his house in that area was razed to the ground. So, Ihube is a deserted place and we were told that elections would not be held there and in other communities around it.

But, we later found out, to our dismay, that results were being written for those areas. Fictitious results were written and announced in connivance with the EO (Election Officer). 7000 people were claimed to have voted in Ihube, they said ten thousand people voted in Aku. In Ezinnachi, they claimed 16000 people voted. All these places have been abandoned because of insecurity.

It would be good if anyone can visit those areas to see that there’s no life there. So, that is exactly what happened. We had won the election but it was stolen away from us.”
