DR Congo players celebrate their victory

On Friday, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) convincingly defeated Guinea 3-1, earning a spot in the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.

Guinea had opened the scoring in the 20th minute of the match from the penalty spot. Mohamed Bayo sent the ball into the right of the net, giving goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi-Nzau no chance.

DR Congo equalised seven minutes later. Chancel Mbemba pounced on a loose ball inside the box and beat the goalkeeper with a shot into the top of the net.

DR Congo made it 2-1 from the penalty spot in the 65th minute of the match. Ibrahim Kone got a hand on the penalty from Yoane Wissa, but could not stop it from flying inside the left post.

Arthur Masuaku gave the Central African side a 3-1 lead eight minute to the end of the match. He took a wonderful free kick and curled the ball into the top left corner with an absolutely phenomenal strike.
